چکیده

Sharks are one of the most threatened groups marine animals because high exploitation rates coupled with low resilience to fishing pressure. We provide information on current status young sharks caught in nets Iskenderun and Mersin Bays eastern Mediterranean, based fishery-dependent surveys conducted between 2010 2021. were found bycatches trawling nets, trammel bottom longlines lines. Incidental captures young-of-the-year or juvenile specimens (n=269) included 15 species data indicate that İskenderun may serve as a nursery ground for new-born individuals especially Blackmouth Catshark (Galeus melastomus), Lesser Spotted Dogfish (Scyliorhinus canicula), Velvet Belly (Etmopterus spinax). New Carcharhiniform Sharks (Chondrichthyes, Elasmobranchii) from the Early to Middle Eocene of Seymour Island, Antarctic Peninsula

Seymour Island, Antarctic Peninsula, is known for its wealth of fossil remains. This island provides one of the richest fossiliferous Paleogene sequences in the world. Chondrichthyans seemingly dominate this Eocene marine fauna and offer a rare insight into high-latitude faunas during the Palaeogene. So far, only a few isolated teeth of carcharhinid sharks have been reported from Seymour Island...

Conservation of marine megafauna through minimization of fisheries bycatch.

Many populations of marine megafauna, including seabirds, sea turtles, marine mammals, and elasmobranchs, have declined in recent decades due largely to anthropogenic mortality. To successfully conserve these long-lived animals, efforts must be prioritized according to feasibility and the degree to which they address threats with the highest relative impacts on population dynamics. Recently, Wi...

Global Diversity Hotspots and Conservation Priorities for Sharks

Sharks are one of the most threatened groups of marine animals, as high exploitation rates coupled with low resilience to fishing pressure have resulted in population declines worldwide. Designing conservation strategies for this group depends on basic knowledge of the geographic distribution and diversity of known species. So far, this information has been fragmented and incomplete. Here, we h...
